Dear Mike,

Manitoba Harvest attended and exhibited at our first international trade show, BioFach, this past week in Nuremberg, Germany (Feb 21-24). BioFach is the largest World Organic Trade Fair with 2008 attendance of over 46,500 trade visitors from 120 countries. This was definitely the place "Where organic people meet!" BioFach also holds trade fairs in Shanghai, Tokyo, Baltimore and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Two of our Co-Founders and our Marketing & Education Manager crossed the pond to continue the exploration of the global marketplace. The experience was exceptional and we felt proud to be representing Manitoba, Canada to hundreds and thousands of people.

Testimonial of the Month

Dear Manitoba Harvest,

I wanted to write to you to share with you the success that my wife and I have had with weight loss and how your Organic Hemp Protein & Fiber Powder has played a large part.

I am 42 years old.  I have been married 12 years and my wife is a wonderful cook.  I put on about 40 pound over the years and weighed about 230 pounds.  About 9 months ago, I passed a kidney stone and realized that I was not invincible.   My lab results showed that I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, I was obese and not going in the right direction.

Three months later, my wife started a high protein, low carb diet, and I decided that it was time to join her.  I start almost every morning with a protein shake.  At first, I used soy because that was what was available to me.  I had stomach problems and I was not to pleased.  I soon discovered Manitoba Harvest's Organic Hemp Protein & Fiber Powder and made it part of my diet.

Six months later, I have lost over 50 pounds.  I am at my goal weight of between 175 and 180 pounds.  My blood pressure, cholesterol and all labs are normal.  My doctor has asked me for my shake recipe.  I went from a size 50 Jacket to a size 42.  My waist went from a size 40 to a size 34.  I have had to replace my wardrobe twice along the way.  My wife has also lost 30 pounds and together, we have changed our lives.  In fact our kids, especially my 16 month old son, begs me to make him a shake every day when he hears the blender.  It's a family affair!

Needless to say, I am grateful for discovering Manitoba Harvest.  Thank you for putting out  wonderful products that have changed our lives.

Sincerely,

Jonathan G.

Dear Manitoba harvest,

I have been a hemp food fan since the first bottle of hemp seed oil was produced in 1998. I regularly tell everyone about the health benefits, but actually surprised myself one day. I had burned my hand, not too badly but it just wasn't healing with vitamin E and aloe. While making a smoothie, I applied some hemp seed oil to the wound and it sunk in very quickly. I did that three times and literally watched the burn heal up .So if you can see results like that on the outside ,imagine what it does on the inside!

Keep up the good work and looking forward to touring your new facility!

Alex Headshot "I was involved in the hemp clothing business with Martin Moravcik (Co-founder) (Emperor's Clothing Co. 1993-1998) before the creation of Fresh Hemp Foods. The evolution from clothing to foods came when Martin and I joined forces with Mike Fata back in 1998. That same year Hemp became legal to grow for seed in Canada and the opportunities opened up. As I became more aware of the incredible nutritional qualities of hemp seed, especially the Essential Fatty Acids and bounty of vegan protein, I knew we were onto something. As cultures flourished over the last 5000 years, hemp seed and fibre have played a vital role. The historical uses of hemp for food and fibre originate in China around 2500 BC and are still being used today. It is now our turn to continue with the saga as the modern day hemp messengers. Plants talk, we need to listen."

Alex action "I travel across Canada doing trade and consumer shows, in-store demos, and promos and handle all the day to day Canadian sales and marketing aspects. I also have the opportunity to educate the public and store staff on the history and nutritional quality of the mighty hemp seed. I am very lucky and blessed to be doing what I am doing. It has changed my life in so many positive ways and I have met so many wonderful people along the way."

"I love to sprinkle the shelled hemp seeds on all my salads and enjoy creating new salad dressings with hemp seed oil.  I also like adding our hemp protein powder to my smoothies every morning. My all time favorite dessert is the 'raw' hemp chocolate sauce and mejdool dates stuffed with hemp seed butter, hmmm..."

Hemp Replaces Common Food Allergens

Approximately 11 million Americans live with food allergies. Some of the most common food allergens include milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, and wheat (gluten).  Symptoms of a food allergy can range from a tingling sensation in the mouth, swelling of the tongue and the throat, difficulty breathing, hives, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, drop in blood pressure, and loss of consciousness to death in extreme cases.

Fortunately, Manitoba Harvest's hemp products offer comprehensive healthy and tasty alternatives to these common food allergens.  In addition, Manitoba Harvest owns and operates its facility where none of the common allergens enter the building, so it poses no chance for contamination from the common food allergens.

Blissful Dairy Alternative:

Manitoba Harvest's Hemp Bliss organic hemp milk is a wonderful alternative to dairy, as it is free of dairy, nuts, soy, gluten, and cholesterol.  And unlike milk, hemp milk provides 1200mg per serving of omega 3 fatty acids.  It also had 5 grams of complete protein per serving.  It can be used in shakes, smoothies, or sipped by itself - it's that good.

A Different Delicious Butter:

Instead of peanut butter or other nut butters that come from tree nuts, Manitoba Harvest Hemp Seed Butter is made of shelled hemp seeds.  This delicious green spread offers more complete protein by weight than beef, chicken, or fish.  It also contains an extremely rich source of omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, including GLA.  It can be used any way you would use other nut butters and substituted in any nut butter recipe.

Hemp Protein Powder Power:

Most protein powders on the market are made of whey, soy, or egg protein.  Each can be extremely highly processed which can damage or de-nature proteins, as well as and pose allergy concerns.  Manitoba Harvest Hemp Protein Powder and Protein & Fiber Powder are raw, cold-milled whole food protein powders that are rich in complete protein, omega 3 and 6, and a wonderful source of fiber.  They can be used in shakes, smoothies, yogurt, and more.

What is the link between Heart Disease and Inflammation?

Several years ago researchers were seeing a trend of patients who had rheumatoid arthritis being twice as likely as the normal population to suffer a heart attack or have a stroke.  We have now come to understand that inflammation is a major culprit in heart disease and cancer.

Inflammation is a normal response that body uses to repair damage to tissue, blood vessels, muscles, joints etc.  However inflammation is problamatic when it becomes chronic and static, staying in one place too long.  This low grade chronic inflammation appears to be more of a factor than even cholesterol when it comes to heart disease and stroke.  This is why I constantly remind people to ask their doctors not only to do cholesterol testing but also inflammation testing on a regular basis.  There is a simple blood test called C-Reactive protein that your doctor can order that quite literally can save your life.  There are studies that show that a high C-Reactive protein finding can indicate a person's high susceptibility for a heart attack or stroke up to 7 years ahead of time.

What to do about inflammation? The best treatment for reducing inflammation is taking a minimum of 5 grams of omega 3 oil a day.  I believe the best source of omega 3 is Hemp Seed Oil due to it's perfect ratio of essential fats and bioavailability to the human body.
