At Manitoba Harvest headquarters we are setting forth to adopt a modern version of a long standing Japanese vision. Wabi Sabi, Japan's aesthetic ideal of less is more. If you aren't using it, give it away or dispose of it responsibly. Before you purchase, be sure there's room for it. Buy local, buy organic, buy less and reuse, repair, recycle and more. You may pay more for locally produced, fair trade and/or organic products, but it evens out when you buy less of everything else and reduce carbon intensive activities like driving. It's not a coincidence that when you do things to save the planet you not only save money, but your life gets simpler, healthier and happier.
This is an ideal we have been embracing and educating on for a long while but recently we were elated to find that our exclusive rental car company offers the Toyota Prius Hybrid. We tested the usability of these cars recently when our US Marketing Manager attempted to use a Prius exclusively for a long market tour throughout California and a consumer show, SolFest, in northern California. Not only did we cover many miles in style but this car fits an amazing amount of stuff! We packed ourselves, our luggage and all the equipment needed for an entire festival, including product, into this deceptively small car. Yes, it costs a little bit more to rent but we saved a lot on gas, greenhouse emissions and felt even more that we were representing the change we wish to see in the world.
It gets better. Our exclusive international airline offers carbon credits that can be purchased as part of airfare that will offset environmental impacts from flying. It is very inexpensive and just a click of a button when booking online. Wind energy credits are purchased and fed back into the grid at a rate calculated by an environmental impact equation that charges you enough to cover your flight. Sounds great and we are committed to using this system whenever possible.
We are two more steps closer to bringing hemp food education to the market place, with our store trainings and consumer events, while making a statement of how we choose to stand up for Global Cooling. It really is not a coincidence that when choices are made to help save our planet, we are left feeling that our dollars are well spent and our message is clear. Right down to the cars we drive.

SolFest, Hopland, CA, USA
We mentioned a show in northern California called SolFest. Well this you’re going to love. We are proud sponsors of SolFest this year. SolFest is a yearly festival that takes place on the grounds of the Solar Living Institute powered completely by solar panels atop the large structures found on the grounds. SolFest claims to be the greenest show on earth!
SolFest is the world’s premier two-day celebration of renewable energy and sustainable living. Since SolFest was born in 1996 over 100,000 people have learned how to change the world while having fun. Each summer SolFest transforms the rural hamlet of Hopland, California, into the global epicentre of green living. The main stage, family stage, and six workshop tents are filled with world-renowned speakers, musicians and artists, offering keynotes, panels, performances, and over fifty one-hour workshops.
The leading developers and distributors of green products and services are here too, sponsoring and exhibiting in hundreds of booths and displays. SolFest is unique in many ways. It is a learning opportunity second to none. It is a celebration like no other. And it is a magnet for the best and brightest from around the country and the world, who get together every year to exchange ideas, network, and recharge their intellectual and emotional batteries for the year ahead. SolFest is not a temporary encampment, nor is it a weekend-long set-up in a convention hall. The Solar Living Institute’s home, the Solar Living Center, is a unique solar-powered permaculture site. The year-round commitment to demonstrating to and educating the public embody the principles of SolFest. This gives attendees and sponsors alike a uniquely powerful understanding of the possibilities of renewable energy, green building and healthy and sustainable food choices. SolFest indeed seems it could be the Greenest Show on Earth!

Cameron Shayne: Master teacher and organization founder of the holistic martial arts system, Budokon, that integrates yoga, nutrition and life coaching.
Cameron’s professional highlight: “While at the 1996 Cannes Film Festival I met a young up and coming actor-comedian, Chris Tucker. Chris told me of his next project with a virtually unknown (in America) Chinese fellow named Jackie Chan. After explaining the project, Chris offered me the job as his personal martial arts trainer and fight scene choreographer. When Chris told me he was thinking of doing a film with this guy he’d never heard of named Jackie Chan, I almost fell off my chair. He was like ‘do you think I should do it?’ I was like, YES! Trust me!” And the rest is history. Rush Hour went on to be a box office hit.
Cameron’s personal highlight: Having a daughter. Pure and simple.
Cameron’s favourite hemp foods: Manitoba Harvest Hemp Protein Powder which he eats 2-3 times daily in his shakes and Hemp Bliss organic hemp milk drank straight up. Flavor? Chocolate of course.
Cameron’s quotes: “I travel year round, around the world. I eat organic food. I love veggies and fruit. I buy sustainable products. I own very little, what I do own is the finest available made by master craftsman. I love wine and dancing. I am happy.” “I teach the art of power, concentration, and personal mastery to everyone from Olympic gold medalists, to movie stars, to carpenters. Even with this diverse collection of people they all have three major things in common; they all have a burning desire for health and wellness, they all love to express themselves through movement, and they all eat Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils. I don't give my clients anything but the best. Manitoba Harvest is just that! Since starting to use their products in 2004 I am their biggest fan."
Cameron’s story:
Cameron has devoted 20 years to the study and mastery of body organization and awareness through the classical arts of Yoga and Martial Arts. His keen understanding of body dynamics, coupled with an eye for the complex qualities of movement, make him an uncommon commodity. "Yoga and martial arts are simply an external expression of ones internal being. Therefore by better organizing the way a person moves, we serve to better organize the way that person thinks and lives." Cameron has a diverse background in the arts currently training under the legendary Rickson Gracie in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, as well as being a high-ranking Black Belt in both Olympic Style Tae Kwon Do and Okinawan Karate-Do. He is also a teacher of Yoga trained under OM Yoga’s Cindy Lee, as well as an expert in both Eastern Mysticisms, and Holistic Nutrition. He has worked as a Personal Bodyguard for many industry entertainers including Carrot Top, Pauly Shore, Shawn Penn and Charlie Sheen. During this time he built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s top Personal Security Experts. Cameron subsequently worked on a number of film projects. Most notably he was Martial Arts Trainer and Fight Scene Choreographer for Chris Tucker in both Rush Hour 1 & 2, as well as Renee Russo’s martial arts trainer for the Lethal Weapon series. Cameron has been sought after by the world’s top athletes for peak level performance training, working with such greats as Carolina Panthers Quarterback Rodney Peat, boxing legend Sugar Ray Leonard, world’s No.1 women’s Volleyball Player Kerri Walsh and many others. Most recently Cameron has developed a new training system entitled “The Budokon System”. This is a holistic training program, which combines yoga, martial arts, holistic nutrition and self-empowerment techniques for physical, emotional and mental health. Cameron will be releasing the Budokon System on DVD with the natural lifestyle company GAIAM. Cameron currently lives and trains in Los Angeles, CA, USA where he has taught such clients as Carey Elwais, David Arquette, Courtney Cox, Renee Russo, Amber Valetta and Meg Ryan.
Here is a highlight of some recent work Cameron and Budokon have asked Manitoba Harvest to support. Much more to come. You can follow up HERE
