Manitoba Harvest invites you to help support this amazing effort at creating a free gathering in San Francisco Golden Gate Park to support health, peace and well being for our planet.
On Saturday, September 8th, Musician and Filmmaker, Michael Franti and his group Spearhead, with Guerrilla Management present the 9th Annual 911 Power to the Peaceful Festival at Speedway Meadow in Golden Gate Park.
The Festival began humbly in 1999 as an international day of art and culture in support of political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal. The name and date “911” were chosen to call attention to the emergency status of Mumia's impending execution and drew roughly 6,000 people to the Mission 's Dolores Park. In 2000, PTTP expanded; showing support for all prisoners on death row, and speaking out against the exponential growth of the prison industrial complex.
When the attacks of September 11th, 2001 occurred, the festival took on a new significance, serving both as a day of remembrance for the lives lost in the tragedy as well as a day in which Northern Californians called for an end to all bombing around the globe. The 2002 and 2003 events offered a space for healing and compassion for all the people killed or displaced by terrorism and the war on terrorism. By this time, the festival had outgrown Dolores Park, and was resituated in the lush mile acre of Speedway Meadows in Golden Gate Park , with over 20,000 people attending. In 2004 the festival was themed "Stand up and be Counted", encouraging people to get out and vote. Last year's festival, themed "Bring 'Em Home" emphasized that the best way to support our troops is to bring them home now and drew upwards of 50,000 attendees participating in a day of music, art and social justice.

Martin Moravcik, also known to many as the Godfather of Hemp, has been with our company since day one. Well, actually before day one.
Manitoba’s “Godfather of Hemp” is Still Sowing Seeds of Change:
..…It started as a seed of an idea. In the early 1990s, Martin Moravcik was importing handcrafted goods from indigenous people around the world for retail stores in his home town of Winnipeg, when he discovered that items made from hemp were in high demand. It was a bonus that they were eco-friendly, durable and profitable. The seed that would help germinate Canada’s historic hemp reform had been planted in Moravcik’s mind and spirit. Now, his company, Manitoba Harvest, is leading the way in the promotion and application of organic and sustainable agriculture in Canada…..
Some words from Martin:
“My favourite part of working with Manitoba Harvest is knowing that because hemp agriculture is sustainable, my efforts to survive in the world are not undermining the future of my children. I also like the constantly changing challenges.”
“My favourite memory from the early years has to be from 1996 when the results from our first government sponsored farms trials came in and we learned that hemp could be grown with undetectable amounts of THC. All the officials at the meeting were pleasantly amazed as the only opposition they could muster against hemp agriculture was completely eliminated. I feel this was the first major turning point for hemp agriculture in Canada.”
“My favourite hemp foods are Chocolate Hemp Bliss #1 with shelled hemp seed and the hemp seed oil as #2 and #3 respectively.”
We imagine making all of those hemp foods must be fun too as Martin fills his days and nights constantly perfecting our standards of production so we can deliver the freshest hemp foods on the market.
When Martin isn’t making hemp foods for Manitoba Harvest he is filling his moments with his beautiful family. Tara, his wife, and his five children are blessings in every life they touch and are dear friends of our community. Gaia – on right… future president of Manitoba Harvest?? (he helps put together our sample packs presently) and Mary on the left may very well turn into our Marketing Queen extraordinaire (she presently volunteers time to come organize and build sales and marketing kits…and keeps Gaia in line).

Martin created one of the best hemp recipes and one of the greatest Holiday gifts we heard of this year, Manitoba Harvest Gazpacho, gifted in a mason jar with a bow!

MANITOBA HARVEST RECIPE OF THE SEASON
Manitoba Harvest Gazpacho
4 ripe tomatoes, quartered and cored
1 large cucumber peeled
1/2 red onion
1 large green pepper
3 cups tomato juice
2/3 cups hemp seed oil
4 cloves garlic
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Dash Tabasco sauce
Cut and dice 25% of the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and green pepper and set aside in a big bowl.
Crush the cloves of garlic and place with all the rest of the tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, green pepper, tomato juice, hemp seed oil, salt and pepper and Tabasco into a Vita Mix.
Turn Vita Mix on high for 15 seconds.
Combine Vita Mix contents in big bowl with the diced tomatoes, cucumber, red onion and green pepper. Stir together. Serve chilled. Enjoy.

TELUS WAS A SUCCESS!
Manitoba Harvest was the main ‘GREEN' sponsor at the Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival at Whistler April 13-22. This epic event estimated to attract over 250,000 spectators from around the globe blended with thousands of locals who proudly call Whistler home. As one of the chosen sites for the 2010 Olympics, Whistler has been voted one of the best ski/snowboard destinations in the world. The Manitoba Harvest tent was set up close to center village where we gave samples of seed, butter, oil, Hemp Protein smoothies and Hemp Bliss – our new Organic Hempmilk. The chocolate, vanilla and original flavors proved to be very popular and our samples energized athletes and spectators for events such as the Super Pipe, Big Air, Stompede and Rail sessions.
The three founding partners, Mike Fata, Alex Chwaiewsky and Martin Moravcik took time from their busy schedules to mix business with pleasure. Fresh snow and sunshine added to their snowboarding of the vast and steep Whistler/Blackcomb mountain terrain. The Freeride Series at the main stage hosted rootsy big name bands such as Bassnectar, Sam Roberts, K'Naan, Stephen and Damian Marley, Toots and the Maytals, Swollen Members MC known as Prevail and Rahzel the human beat box. The Manitoba Harvest logo flashed on a big screen during and in between the performances along with the other main sponsors. Our hemp seeds were given to Swollen Member MC who took ‘Hemp Bliss' stickers for his snowboard and we gave Stephen Marley's vegan chef some hemp butter and oil for their tour to California.
The Telus World Ski and Snowboard Festival was a huge success for Manitoba Harvest.
